M9 Tessellations

In Term 3 we learned about tessellations…

We learned that a tessellation is the repeated use of a single shape without any gaps or overlapping.

We created a template and then traced around it. We translated it up or down, and from side to side to fill in our whole page.

Ethan accidently created a different type of template. To make his fit nicely with no gaps he had to rotate it.
When people had finished their first tessellation, some people decided to have a try at Ethan’s.

Creating colour patterns…
Colouring in the patterns was harder than we thought it was going to be! Some people had to start again or problem solve to make their accidental patterns work.

We are very proud of our M9 tessellations!

Can you tell which tessellations were created using translation?
Can you find some tessellations that were created using rotation?
Which colour patterns do you think are most effective?
What would you do differently next time?
